Imane H. is a Moroccan citizen who has lived in Casablanca, Morocco for 20 years. Her favourite Moroccan-based movie is A Mile in My Shoes. (directed by Saïd Khallaf) She writes of it, "[It] stands out in Moroccan cinema for its powerful storytelling. It follows a young man navigating the hardships of life in Casablanca’s marginalized neighborhoods. Unlike typical commercial films, it offers a raw portrayal of poverty and social indifference, emphasizing the emotional toll and resilience of underprivileged youths." Her favourite Moroccan food is Pastilla, writing of it, "a delicate pastry that dances between sweet and savory. [It] isn’t just food—it’s a celebration of culture, tradition, and the artistry of Moroccan cooking." And her favourite place in Morocco is Essaouira. She wrote of her first experience to the Moroccan city along the country's west coast, "I have always believed that Chefchaouen was my favorite Moroccan destination, with its blue-painted walls and tranquil atmosphere. However, when I visited Essaouira, this belief vanished. It was as if I uncovered something deeper, not necessarily more beautiful, but a place where I truly felt at home. Essaouira, where I met my true passion, the hiking trails, experienced on horseback, were distinctly different from what I had imagined. Shumukh—a majestic black beauty—is the horse with whom I have built a bond that feels as though our spirits are intertwined. I’ll never forget the way he carried me, guiding me with the quiet wisdom of a true companion. To preserve this connection, I had the privilege of immortalizing him in a painting that beautifully captured his essence. Each time I look at it, I’m transported back to Essaouira, reliving the feelings I had in that magical place."
